Life has a way of ebbing and flowing, much like the tides at Bannow Beach.
Yesterday was one of those challenging days that occasionally surface—though I’m grateful they’re becoming less frequent.
My morning routine went askew, and I didn’t make it to the beach until nearly 10 am. The tide was far out, requiring a lengthy wade to find enough depth for a proper dip. Even the usually rejuvenating sea swim couldn’t quite lift my spirits.
The day continued to drift off course.
My plans to organise the office remained unfulfilled, and I found myself seeking comfort in snacks—a choice that not only derailed my intentions to return to a proper paleo diet but also triggered that familiar cycle of sugar highs and subsequent crashes.
It’s fascinating how our nutrition choices can have such a profound impact on our mental state.
However, today brought a complete turnaround. Helen joined me for an early morning swim, and by 7:30 am, we were both in the water.
There’s something particularly special about sharing these morning dips—they seem to set a different tone for the entire day.
The early start, the companionship, and the invigorating sea all combined to create the perfect morning reset.
As I continue this journey of daily sea swimming, I’m learning to accept that not every day will be brilliant, and that’s perfectly fine.
What matters is maintaining the routine, showing up for yourself, and recognising that tomorrow always offers a fresh start.
I am with you both in spirit 😂🤣
