A Long Day Unloading: Our Moving Truck Journey to the Storage Unit

Today was one of those days that felt like it would never end, but now that it’s over, we can’t help but feel accomplished.

Our moving truck finally arrived at the storage unit, and it took the combined effort of three of us over six hours to unload every last box and piece of furniture.

It was exhausting, sweaty, but thanks to the professionalism of the moving crew, everything stayed under control. Nothing seemed to phase them, and it made the whole process much smoother, which was a big step forward in our journey.

The Moving Truck Arrival

The day started early. We knew we had a long day ahead of us, so we arrived at the storage unit ready to tackle the task.

We were lucky with the weather as it was a beautifully sunny day, almost too warm but so much better than a rainy day, so I can’t complain.

When the moving truck pulled up, it was almost overwhelming to see just how much we had packed into it. It’s funny how your belongings somehow multiply when they’re all contained in a moving truck.

But there was an immediate challenge—the truck was far too big to get close to the storage unit, and the ground from the truck to the unit was made of gravel and slightly uphill.

This meant that moving heavy items, especially those on the piano mover trolley, was a real struggle. The gravel path made it difficult to push, and it required a lot of strength and coordination to get the heavier pieces up to the unit.

Teamwork and Hard Work

While I was there to carry what I could, it was really the two-man moving crew who did the heavy lifting—literally.

They tackled the heaviest items like the fridge, washing machine, and the massive bookshelf, navigating the challenging gravel path and getting everything safely into the storage unit.

I helped where I could, carrying smaller boxes and assisting with the lighter items, but the moving crew truly made all the difference.

There were a few moments of frustration, like dealing with heavy boxes that seemed determined not to be lifted.

The gravel path was a particular challenge—it made even the simplest tasks physically demanding, and moving the piano mover trolley over it felt like an uphill battle, both literally and figuratively.

But through plenty of laughs, a few groans, and one or two breaks to catch our breath, we finally got everything inside.

A Moment to Reflect

As we closed the door to the now full storage unit, there was a strange mix of emotions—exhaustion, relief, and even a little nostalgia.

Seeing all of our things packed away in this temporary space made us reflect on how far we’ve come.

Today was another reminder that moving is not just about transporting things; it’s about the memories and transitions that come with it.

What’s Next?

Now that the truck is unloaded and everything is in storage, we’re looking forward to focusing on the next stage of our journey.

With our belongings safe and secure, we can turn our full attention to the exciting renovations ahead. One step at a time, we’re getting closer to our vision of a fully off-grid eco-home.

Today was hard work, but it was worth it. Here’s to making progress, even if it comes one heavy box at a time.
