Eco-Friendly Heating and Cooking in Our Rental Farmhouse 🏡

Challenge: Converting from gas/oil to electric solutions

The Fossil Fuel Dilemma 🌍

Our current rental farmhouse comes with the typical Irish setup—gas cooking and oil heating.

For us eco-minded folks, burning fossil fuels isn’t ideal.

Yes, we still have our “dinosaur juice” drinking motorhome—though technically, oil comes from microscopic marine organisms rather than dinosaurs.

But “dino juice” does have a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Don’t worry, eco-warriors, we have plans for addressing this… stay tuned!

Our Electric Kitchen Solutions ⚡

We’ve implemented two main solutions for cooking:

1. Portable Induction Hob

We’ve brought our trusty portable double induction hob cooker from our motorhome. It’s efficient, safe, and perfectly suited to our needs.

2. The Air Fryer Revolution 🍳

I’ll admit—I was late to the air fryer party. I mistakenly thought they were just for chips (which, ironically, I don’t eat, as I follow a paleo diet. Yes, you read that right—I’m married to an Irish woman, moving to Ireland, and I don’t eat potatoes OR bread! 😱)

After extensive research by my younger brother Don, we invested in the Instant Vortex Digital Air Fryer.

It’s been nothing short of revolutionary for our cooking. I’ve completely abandoned traditional ovens, even managing to bake paleo-friendly bread in it. (More paleo recipes and cooking tips coming soon!)

Heating Our Century-Old Farmhouse 🔥

For heating this 100+ year old farmhouse, we’ve turned to free standing Infrared Heater Panels.

While there are many options on the market, we’re still conducting extensive research to find the absolute best solutions. I’ll share more detailed recommendations as we continue our testing.

A Quick Side Note on Being a Jack of All Trades 🎓

As mentioned before, I consider myself a jack of all trades and master in all of them 😁.

The complete phrase actually goes:

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”

This approach has served us well in our eco-journey, allowing us to adapt and find creative solutions to various challenges.
